The Reimagined Pedagogy of Games Lab (RPG Lab) is dedicated to the pursuit of reimagining how games can be used to aid in education. This isn't constrained to educational games, and we are actively interested in all applications of games in pedagogy.
Along with international collaborators, the RPG Lab has been part of organizing dozens of workshops and events related to using games for educational advancements. The bulk of this work is part of the Let's Play project.
Dr. Eric Rapos is an Associate Teaching Professor in the Computer Science program at Ontario Tech University. While his primary focus is the effective delivery of curriculum, he is very interested in improving classroom teaching. From his personal interest in tabletop games, Eric began to focus his research on the applications of games in learning. Having worked with students on education related projects, many involving games, his aim is to help reimagine the pedagogy of games. Dr. Rapos also currently serves as the Undergraduate Program Director for the CS Program at OTU.
The RPG Lab is actively seeking new members. Specifically, we are looking for Undergraduate Honours Thesis students, MSc/PhD students in CS who are looking for a co-advisor in our specialization, academic collaborators, or simply pedagogy of games enthusiasts.
The RPG Lab has been awarded a $6400 grant from the SSHRC Institutional Grants program for our project Improved Classroom Teaching Using the "Let’s Play" Framework. The funds will be used to run a a year-long Faculty Learning Community at OTU for the 2024-2025 year, using our existing "Let's Play" framework. The support will be used to purchase games, provide Professional Development stipends to participants, and cater our sessions.
